Taiwanese delegation visits Minesto in Gothenburg in December 2016

Minesto extends Taiwanese contact network as delegation visits Sweden

December 18, 2016

Today, we had the privilege of being visited by representatives of the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research and National Taiwan University.

The delegation was visiting Sweden and Minesto on behalf of the Offshore Wind Power and Marine Energy Focus Centre, part of the Taiwan National Energy Program. The overall objective of the National Energy Program is to achieve industrial development targets, leveraging international collaborations, and fostering opportunities to strengthen Taiwan’s energy related industries.

The meeting at Minesto’s headquarters in Gothenburg was characterised by a positive and constructive dialogue regarding the ocean energy potential in Taiwan and how Minesto’s low-velocity tidal and ocean current technology Deep Green could play a role in the country’s transition to a nuclear-free, green energy system. The Taiwanese government has previously stated the target of generating 20 percent of the nation’s electricity need from renewable sources by 2025.

Last month, Minesto signed a collaboration agreement with National Taiwan Ocean University, also with the purpose to explore the potential for Minesto’s Deep Green technology in Taiwan.
