Minesto at UNOPS Inauguration
Together with BGA Invest, Minesto had the honour of attending the inauguration of UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) Global Innovation Centre in Lund earlier this week. UNOPS' Sweden-based Global Innovation centre was launched with support from the Swedish government and Sony, setting out to harness the synergy of public-private partnerships towards the 2030 Agenda.
Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation, Peter Eriksson, stated that a strong focus on innovation and research is key to solving some of the world’s major challenges. Sweden’s Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation, Ibrahim Baylan, further emphasised the importance of innovation in addressing global challenges and the significance of establishing the UNOPS Global Innovation Centre in Lund.
Dr Martin Edlund, CEO of Minesto, attended the inauguration ceremony together with BGA Invest. He emphasised the strong alignment between UNOPS’ and Minesto’s agenda. “We are partners of UNOPS and the purpose of this collaboration is to fight climate change with innovation. UNOPS will be able to contribute greatly to installations of our systems in areas vulnerable to climate change; and more specifically, island nations. UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 7 is at the core of Minesto’s innovation quest, and we are honoured to be invited to this momentous event,” said Dr Martin Edlund.
The government of Sweden will contribute to funding the centre over the next few years, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation, and Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency.
