Minesto secures all permits for Faroe Islands’ installations

Minesto and its collaboration partner, the Faroese electric utility company SEV, has been granted all necessary permits and consents for the installation of two grid-connected tidal kite systems in Vestmannasund, Faroe Islands.

EU leaders back ‘green transition’ in Covid-19 recovery plan

Heads of government from the EU’s 27 member states have called on the European Commission to start preparing “a comprehensive recovery plan” that integrates green and digital aspects, EURACTIV reports. A recovery strategy for when the worst of the pandemic is over needs to be built around the “green transition and digital transformation”, the EU leaders said in a joint statement.

“The urgency is presently on fighting the Coronavirus pandemic and its immediate consequences. We should however start to prepare the measures necessary to get back to a normal functioning of our societies and economies and to sustainable growth, integrating inter alia the green transition and the digital transformation, and drawing all lessons from the crisis.”

Virginia Crosbie MP: We need to embrace the economic and political opportunities of decarbonisation

Following her visit to Minesto UK headquarters in mid-February, Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie had an article published in The House Magazine, where she writes how “a greener approach to international trade will set the UK on the path to decarbonisation.”

In the article Virginia Crosbie highlights the work of Minesto and the company’s marine energy technology: “Technologies such as these will be a key component of our energy mix and in securing the reliability in energy production that we will require.”

The House is a weekly political magazine relating to the British Houses of Parliament.

Tidal power impact on marine wildlife ’significantly lower than predicted’: study

New research into the impact of tidal power turbines on marine wildlife has concluded previous estimates may have overestimated the impact, Recharge reports. Using a high-precision model developed researchers found the likely impact was “significantly lower than predictions using older methods”.
